When I was younger, I remember my mom had an air conditioner in her bedroom, but hers was the only room that got any benefit from it. You are far better off taking them out of the window, however, as they can cause an air leak that makes heating your home more expensive. It take a little work, but taking them out and putting them in the garage or attic can save money.

You should remember that though central air is ideal for most people, you may not need to have it. Those that live in apartments and other rentals may not have a choice. Don’t worry too much, however, as window air conditioners are very good at what they do. You may be surprised to find out how well they work today.
